Caracal™
The Caracal™ system is a phonebook and SMS backup solution.
As most mobile phone users know, the phone book is a very valuable aid to mobile communication today. Indeed most mobile phone users do not know the phone numbers of the people they communicate with frequently, as they merely select their details from the phone book and then call them.
For the average mobile phone user, loss of a SIM card or phone can cause a lot of disruption, not just because of the financial loss involved, but also due the loss of valuable contacts data and prior short message correspondence. It can take months to recover most of this lost data, if at all. For business people, this can represent lost business opportunities as well as contact with close associates and friends for a period of time.
The Caracal™ product seeks to address this need by offering operators
and GSM service providers a means of storing phone book data on behalf
of users, and making it available on demand.Caracal also provides an
simple and fast way to copy a phonebook from one SIM card to another
.The product provides service providers an excellent opportunity to
raise revenues through direct sales of the service, as well as indirectly
through increased customer satisfaction. This product is a Value Added
Service (VAS) in itself.
Caracal™ reads, stores and updates user phone book entries from a GSM SIM card or directly from one of the supported phones using the IrDA interface. It utilises a smartcard reader for GMS SIMs and an Infrared dongle for supported phones. Phone book entries are stored in a database for future retrieval. The product is able to update the SIM card or phone from the database on presentation of a valid phonebook PIN

Standalone version
All data is stored at one location and can only be retrieved from the same location.
Network version
Data is stored at a central location but one can have many sites at different locations that communicate with the central server and database. Customers are able to register an any one site and retrieve their phonebook and SMS data from any other site
