WHAT IS Butterfly? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Butterfly is a Timing and Access Control system. When set up on the computers on a local area network Butterfly enables an administrator to control how much time is spent using the Internet by any user.Butterfly consists of three cooperating components: A windows-based Administration Interface, a windows-based Access Controller component, and a backend server (linux or windows-based). This version of Butterfly imposes no restrictions on how many workstations may be controlled at any time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Butterfly SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ---------------------------------------------------------------------- In order to run Butterfly Universal, your system must meet these specifications: o An Intel x86-based computer that meets the minimum hardware requirements for your version of Microsoft Windows or Linux. o Intel x86, glibc2.2 Linux system with kernel v2.4.x for running the backend server (if using Linux). You MUST have the iptables firewall package compiled into the kernel. (See manpages for iptables.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. GETTING HELP ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 Using Butterfly's On-line Help Butterfly's on-line Help system are provided as HTML files when you install Butterfly Universal. The Help file contains all of the information you'll need to use the system. SETUP AND CONFIGURATION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.1 Installation Instructions The Access Controller component is the only component installed on client workstations. Butterfly NE is provided in tgz precompiled binaries that should for all major linux distributions. Consult the online help for a detailed description of the setup process. 4.3 Uninstall Instructions If after installing Butterfly NE, you find it necessary to remove the software from your computer, you can use the standard removal instructions to remove Butterfly. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. REGISTERING Butterfly ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Butterfly is not in the public domain. This program must be registered if it is used in a commercial environment, and will infact automatically connect to the internet to do registration immediately after installation. Your software key will be generated from it. NOTE: All the fields on the registration form are required and are case sensitive. Your software key will be personalized for this information ONLY.
